We announce with sadness the death of a loving father, son and family man David Langenmayr. David was a Master Educator with specialties in science and technology who was renowned for his innovative programs and curriculum. He was in constant awe of the natural world, and never stopped his chase for knowledge. David created and implemented a Marine Environmental Education program in Collier County while at Pine Ridge Middle School. He and His family spent years in India where he taught high school science before being recruited as the Academic Principal at a school in Chongqing, China. David returned to Naples as a teacher at East Naples Middle School.
He was a kind, patient, loving and brilliant man who dedicated his life to education and his students. The principal shared with us how David made a point to greet every student coming to school each morning with a smile and stayed through dismissal until each student was gone. Throughout his thirty-year career in education, he continued to attend student recitals and chaperone dances to show his support of the children.
David loved marine biology, was an avid reader, and a Scuba Diving Instructor. David is survived by his beloved children, Ocean and Orion, his wife Kimberly, his mother, sisters and other extended family and friends to whom he was devoted and generous.
Donations in his name may be made to the East Naples Science Department, attn Principal Maryann Gallegos.

I first met David when he was teaching science at Pine Ridge Middle and I was really impressed by his innovative use of Minecraft (before it was cool). He always had a sparkle of excitement for stretching students minds and doing something fun and engaging. I was sad to see him leave us for over-seas and equally happy to have him back years later in the Collier Science Department. When I saw him again after all these years we shook hands with such gusto that I jammed my thumb and we had a laugh about that. I didn’t know that would be the last time I’d see him.
It brings me sadness to have him leave this world and the wonder for science and the natural world he inspired in student that will never be.
Another lesson that life is short and needs to be cherished.
Thank you David and you are missed.

Mr. Langenmayr was one of my favorite teachers at East Naples Middle School when I attended. He inspired me greatly and when I heard of his passing I was deeply devastated. He was an amazing teacher and could always make us students laugh and smile everyday. I will never forget when he let me record him popping balloons or when he spoke so highly of his family. I’m grateful he is in a better place and lived his life to the fullest when he was with us. -Rachel Hall
