Naples – Frances “Diane” Wendle Fink, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, animal lover, and faithful Christian, peacefully went to Heaven on February 15, 2024. Born in Johnstown, PA, Diane was the cherished daughter of Edgar Jay Wendle, Jr., and Mary Frances Donley Wendle.

Diane’s legacy is marked by her unwavering love for family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Michael John Wendle, Sr., and her beloved son, Dr. Michael John Fink, Sr. Surviving her are her husband of 62 years, Karl Richard Fink; sister Martha Bielski; sister-in-law Susan Wendle; sister-in-law Virginia Fink; daughter Kristen Opolski (Frank); daughter-in-law Dr. Sandra Fink Templeton (Randy); and son Peter Fink (Danielle).

Her grandchildren—Regan Fink, Andy Opolski (Gina), Nicolas Fink (Melanie), Mike Opolski (Lauren), Michael J. Fink, Jr., Blake Templeton, and Carter Templeton—were the joy of her life. Diane also adored her great-grandson Andrew Opolski and great-granddaughter Ava Opolski. Her extended family included numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Diane’s educational journey led her from Westmont Hilltop High School in Johnstown, PA, to Penn State University, where she graduated in 1962 with a degree in Home Economics. As a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, she formed lifelong bonds with fellow sisters. Diane remained dedicated to both Health and Human Development and Delta Gamma, actively supporting both organizations.

At Penn State, Diane met Karl Richard Fink and they were married in 1962. She was a beautiful, young mother who was able to pursue a part-time modeling career in Boston, MA while raising her three small children. She worked hard keeping her family close to each other, even while relocating 14 times. No matter how far she had to travel, she was there supporting her children and grandchildren in any significant event in their life. Her love extended beyond family and friends—she cared for five cats and two dogs throughout her life. Amber, her loyal dog was always by her side.

Diane and Karl moved to Naples, FL, in 1995. She loved the Windstar on Naples Bay community, participating in bible studies, dominoes, book review clubs, and luncheons with friends. Her gardening expertise and knack for cultivating gorgeous blooming orchids made her an asset to the beautification committee. Boating with the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club and RVing with friends was a passion of Diane’s where she especially loved visiting National Parks.

Her philanthropic spirit extended across state lines. Diane was instrumental in organizing the first annual Delta Gamma Great Houston Duck Race, raising funds for the visually impaired. Together with Karl, she established scholarships: one for student athletes pursuing Engineering and Technical Education at Penn State, another for a Health and Human Development Endowed Professorship for Study of Families at Penn State, and lastly the Michael J. Fink, MD Endowed Presidential Scholarship at the University of Texas, honoring their son’s memory. Over 70 scholarships have been awarded to future doctors in Texas.

Diane was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Naples, serving as an Acolyte and Stephen Minister. She contributed to the development of the Mission Church in Northeast Collier County. Inspired by Diane’s giving heart, the Fink Family Foundation was established, enabling the entire family to participate in acts of giving and helping others.

Her unique talent was making everyone feel special. Diane genuinely cared about each person she met, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her unwavering friendship and love extended to the nurses and staff on 4 South Oncology at Naples Community Hospital (NCH), where she was a monthly patient for over 18 years.

Diane’s legacy lives on through the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the memories she leaves behind. She is surrounded with God’s love, grace and everlasting peace.
