Dotty Johansen

Dotty Johansen

March 02, 1942~February 05, 2025

Dorothea Anne Johansen, a sparkling beacon of love, loyalty, and grace, left this world on February 5, 2025, at the age of 82. Surrounded by her loving family, she passed away peacefully at home in Naples, Florida. Born on March 2, 1942, in Passaic, New Jersey, Dotty’s life was a testament to passion, dedication, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

In 1964, Dotty married the love of her life, Jim Johansen. Their love story was one of mutual respect, enduring companionship, and, most memorably, a bit of serendipity. Dotty walked into the deli where Jim worked, and through a combination of charm and cleverness, he managed to get her phone number—sparking the beginning of their beautiful life together.

Together, they raised three children. With their spouses Lyn-anne (John), John (Nancy) and Debbie (Ed) blessed her with seven cherished grandchildren: Liz, Lauren, Karli, Kate, Nick, Carolyn, and Jimmy. Above all, Dotty’s greatest joy was her role as Nana, and she poured all her love and care into her grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them. She is also survived by her brother Richard.

Dotty’s family was the center of her universe, and she found immeasurable joy in sharing her time with them, offering her sewing skills, love, and infectious laughter. A small, private family service will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Naples, Florida on Friday, February 7th, at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation scheduled for Friday, February 7th at 8:30 a.m. at Naples Funeral Home in Naples, Florida. In May, the family will hold a celebration of her life in Rockland County, New York. Details will be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jawonio Foundation, to benefit the James E. Johansen House, a cause dear to their hearts, representing decades of family involvement and volunteering with this vital organization.

As we remember Dotty, we celebrate a life well-lived, a love well-shared, and a legacy that will continue to inspire us. Dorothea Anne Johansen loved us like a rock, danced like a queen, and looked upon all of us through the eyes of love.
